Mitzvah Day

Winter Mitzvah Day!

Mon, Jan 19, 2026, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?”

In the spirit of Tikkun Olam and to honor King’s legacy on MLK Day, join fellow TRS congregants for a day of community service. There will be plenty of family-friendly activities onsite, including:

  • bagging beans and rice for the local food bank,
  • making blankets and snack packs to support families through Northern Virginia Families Services (NVFS),
  • assembling hygiene kits for another local nonprofit,
  • and many more!

There will also be opportunities for smaller groups to volunteer offsite at the local food bank, to clean up and organize the NVFS Clock Tower Thrift shop or participate in a sing-along at Chesterbrook Senior Living Center.

Registration closes on January 5th. Sign up using link above.

Book Drive

Sun, Nov 24 – Mon, Jan 19

As part of Winter Mitzvah Day, we will be collecting new and gently used books for A Bundle of Books, a volunteer-led organization dedicated to providing free, high-quality books to children (newborns to high school) in DC, Maryland and Virginia. Books are distributed directly to local schools and organizations for children. Books should be in good condition, with no broken bindings or torn pages. Click here for a sampling of books and for more information about the organization. Collections will begin on Sunday, November 24, and will continue until Winter Mitzvah Day on January 19. Please drop off your book donations in the bins next to the TRS Library.
