Mitzvah Box Collections

You make a difference! Each month, we collect needed donations of food and other items for area food pantries, shelters and groups with our Mitzvah of the Month program. The receiving agency and the types of items are announced in the weekly e-newsletter. Our two Mitzvah Boxes are conveniently located in our parking lot near the handicapped parking spaces and our Sanctuary lobby. Drop off anytime!

Mitzvah Day Collections

Donations for Share of McLean: Share of McLean is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping low and moderate income neighbors and nearby communities overcome food, clothing and shelter insecurities. Please donate the following items:

  • shelf stable milk
  • cooking oil
  • snacks (such as granola bars, crackers, dried fruit, and nuts)
  • feminine hygiene products (liners, pads & tampons)
  • diapers (Size 6)
  • pull-ups (Sizes 4T and 5T)
  • baby wipes
  • toilet paper
  • paper towels
  • shampoo
  • dish soap
  • unexpired canned goods

Donations for A Bundle of Books: As part of Winter Mitzvah Day, we are collecting new and gently used books for A Bundle of Books, a volunteer-led organization dedicated to providing free, high-quality books to children (newborns to high school) in DC, Maryland and Virginia. Books will be bundled on Mitzvah Day and distributed directly to local schools and organizations for children. Click here for a sampling of books and for more information about the organization. Please donate books in good condition with no broken bindings or torn pages for children (newborns to high school).

Feminine Hygiene Products for Northern Virginia Family Service

April 1-30, 2025

For many women in our area, not having enough money for feminine hygiene products is a monthly problem. During April, please help these women by dropping off sanitary napkins of any size (no other type of feminine hygiene products) in the Mitzvah Boxes. Your donations will go to Northern Virginia Family Service.

Helping Hands Boutique at Bailey’s Elementary School

May 1-31, 2025

Help supply needed items to families at Bailey’s Elementary School in the Culmore area of Falls Church. Bailey’s is a Title I school, and over 70 percent of the students come from low-income, mostly immigrant, families. Items collected will be donated to the school’s Helping Hands Boutique.

Please donate:

  • Children’s Pants – Sweatpants and leggings for boys and girls, ages 4-10.
  • New Tennis Shoes – Sizes: Little kids 8-13, big kids 1-2.
  • Hygiene Products – Adult toothbrushes, deodorant, period pads, and liners.
  • Small Laundry Detergent Bottles
  • Baby Wipes
  • Diapers – Sizes 3-6 months and 6-9 months.

Northern Virginia Family Services Back to School Drive

Bailey's Elementary School

Falls Church Community Service Council Food Pantry

The Falls Church Community Service Council Food Pantry provides emergency support to those in need in Falls Church and Fairfax County. Please donate the following food and personal care items. (Please do not donate glass containers and avoid expired food.)

  • Diapers: Larger sizes needed, size 4 and up
  • Canned pasta meals like ravioli, spaghetti-os, etc.
  • Canned chicken and tuna
  • Cooking oil
  • Quart size shelf-stable milk
  • Peanut butter and jelly/jam (no glass containers)
  • Oatmeal
  • Pancake mix and syrup
  • Masa flour
  • 2-4 lb. bags of sugar
  • 2-5 lb. bags of rice
  • Instant and ground coffee
  • Pasta sauce and spaghetti (no glass containers)
  • Mayonnaise, ketchup and mustard

DC Family & Youth Initiative (DCFYI)

Nov 1-31, 2025

Donate slippers, socks, gloves/mittens for foster children and young adults who have aged out of foster care through the DC Family & Youth Initiative (DCFYI).  DCFYI also facilitates mentorships, foster parents, and adoptions through their program.  Items needed include a variety of slipper sizes (men’s 9–13 and women’s 7–10), socks (a mix of sizes for teens/young adults ranging from basic crew socks to colorful or fuzzy or warm winter socks), and mittens/glovesfor teens/young adults.
