As we approach the New Year, we lean into Judaism’s commitment to and experience with strength, resilience and hope. How we need these characteristics as we face the many challenges of our time. The Re-Encounter Israel: A Journey of Hope trip is an opportunity for our community that will require those very characteristics – strength, resilience and hope.
As our trips have in the past, this trip will explore the complexity, beauty, and depth of the country – its people, its politics, and its culture. Our 8 days on the ground will also provide a deep dive into where the minds and hearts of Israel and Israelis are today including how they are or are not responding to the trauma of the horrific attacks on October 7, 2023.
Our trip will reflect the diversity of our congregation. We will approach our encounters with ‘eyes-wide-open’ about the spectrum of views on any and all subjects. This journey will be unlike any other. It’s not a repeat of the past trips, but an honest exploration of what is really happening in different communities in Israel today, and what the reality may look like six months from now. Through firsthand conversations, behind-the-scenes access, and immersive experiences, we will explore the layered truth on the ground — socially, politically, and culturally. This trip will challenge assumptions, deepen understanding, and equip you with a more nuanced, honest view of Israel at this critical moment.
While open to all, this is a trip geared towards returning travelers. We won’t be visiting the traditional sites of Israel, although we can help people create a pre-trip itinerary to do that. The trip will begin with dinner in Jerusalem on Monday March 9 and end with dinner in Tel Aviv on Tuesday March 17th.
