Each year, Temple Rodef Shalom observes Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, with a meaningful evening of memory, learning, and reflection. Our clergy team will lead a commemorative service, including candle lighting by 2G and 3G members in memory of the six million Jews who perished in the Shoah.
Following the service, we are honored to welcome Maya C. Klinger, an award-winning children’s author, educator, and lecturer. With more than twenty years of experience, Maya has taught learners of all ages and brings deep expertise in Holocaust remembrance, Bible scholarship, and the power of storytelling to shape understanding.
Maya has led educational tours in Jerusalem and at institutions such as Yad Vashem, and her debut book, The Photographer’s Son, received the prestigious Yad Vashem Award. In her work, she helps younger generations engage with the history and memory of the Holocaust in thoughtful, accessible ways.

Join us to explore its post–World War II origins, global expansion, and cultural impact, with special focus on Israel’s participation since 1973 and what its entries reveal about Israeli society.

Join us for a wonderful to opportunity to meet and Learn with several of our senior shlichim, Israeli Cultural Emissaries serving our community through a partnership with the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington and the Jewish Agency for Israel. Representing diverse Israeli backgrounds, they help build personal and cultural connections with Israel.The program includes a panel discussion followed by three hands-on workshops highlighting their talents through arts, music, food, and storytelling. They will share insights about serving in a diaspora community and ways to reconnect with Israel, even in challenging times.

Leaders from Adam Teva V’Din, an Israeli environmental organization, will visit TRS for a compelling presentation on Israel’s most pressing environmental challenges, framed within today’s legal and social justice landscape. Congregants, including high school students, will learn about Israel’s environmental movement and ways to engage. This is a meaningful opportunity to connect with the people and land of Israel.
