Day of Learning

Temple Rodef Shalom Presents:

Sat, Oct 18, 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM

A Day of Learning: Celebrating “Bereshit/Creation”!

Spend the afternoon eating, learning, and eating again with this year’s Day of Learning.  Exploring the day’s Torah portion, Bereshit/Creation, we’ll investigate ways to create meaningful and dynamic new opportunities for ourselves, at TRS, and in our world. Please register by noon, Wed., Oct 15.

12:00 PM: Lunch together

1:00 PM: Special guest Dr. Gary Rendsburg, Distinguished Professor of Jewish Studies and History, and Irving Laurie Chair in Jewish History at Rutgers University, will explain how the Torah text transmits ancient Israel’s radical break from the surrounding polytheisms in the ancient world through a panoply of literary and stylistic devices such as repetition, wordplay, alliteration, and the employment of rare words and archaic grammatical forms. The lessons learned may be applied beyond Genesis to the entire biblical narrative. Cosponsored by TRS’s Israel Committee.
