The POD has Arrived!

You may have noticed that the POD has arrived! The POD, located underneath the School Lobby Portico, is the collection point for all Spring Mitzvah Day donations. . . now, we just need your help to fill it and help us make a difference in the world. We help a number of organizations in our area; below is a list of the needed items. You may also print this Spring Mitzvah Day Donations List (take to the store with you!)

Spring Mitzvah Day Helpers Needed!

Sunday, June 1 from 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM

Get your social action mojo going and join fellow congregants of all ages in a range of community service and environmental awareness activities. Prepare grocery bags of food for Our Daily Bread clients. Put together dried soup mixes for seniors and for local shelters. Make lunch bags for shelter residents and snack bags for a local food bank. Sort clothing for adults and kids. Plant and refurbish local shelter vegetable gardens. Clean up a local park’s stream and invasive plants. Make your own reusable t-shirt bag. Make gifts for a senior center. There’s truly something for everyone!

Food for Our Daily Bread

Our Daily Bread serves low-income families in the area.

  • Cereal, oatmeal, pancake/biscuit mix
  • Cheese, Spaghetti-Os, Ravioli
  • Pizza kits
  • Canned chicken/meat/tuna, Hamburger Helper
  • Rice, mashed potatoes
  • Canned chili or stew
  • Dried beans
  • Pasta and pasta sauces, canned tomato products
  • Canned fruit
  • Jello, pudding, pie fillings, cake/cookie/brownie mixes, packaged cookies
  • Coffee, tea, powdered/evaporated milk, juice, Gatorade, powdered drink mixes
  • Crackers, pretzels, popcorn, granola bars
  • Sugar, flour, oil
  • Laundry detergent, toilet paper, shampoo, toothpaste, tooth brushes, dish detergent, paper towels, soap

Career Clothes

Career Clothes provides professional clothing for those in poverty for jobs and job interviews.

  • New or gently used men’s and women’s business clothes, large sizes preferred, but all welcome
  • Dress shoes for men and women

 Children’s Clothes

The clothes collected are for local elementary schools serving high proportion of students in free and reduced lunch program.

  • Elementary age kids’ summer clothes such as tops, shorts, pants
  • Children’s shoes, all sizes, all seasons
NOTE: Please, no used underwear or socks or other personal clothing.  No swimming suits, flip flops.

Alternative House

The Alternative house is an emergency teen shelter, homeless youth, and young mothers.

  • Cleaning products (laundry detergent, bleach, paper towels, sponges, mops, trash bags)
  • Child care products (diapers size 4, 5, and 6, pull-ups, training pants, wipes)
  • Miscellaneous (toilet paper, batteries, pots and pans, Ziploc bags, aluminum foil)


Bikes For The World makes bikes affordable and available to lower income people in developing countries

  • Bicycles of all types and sizes in repairable or better condition
  • Spare parts, bicycle tools, bike stands
  • Bike accessories (helmets, locks, pumps, rack, etc.)

 Pet Supplies

Items collected are for pet rescue groups that save the lives of homeless and abandoned pets.

  • For dogs: collars, leashes, harnesses, beds, crates, chew toys
  • For cats: carriers, canned cat food, cat treats, toys, litter and litter boxes, scoops, beds
  • General supplies: towels and blankets, paper towels, large trash bags, disinfectant cleaner, disposable plastic gloves


Donations of t-shirts will be used for making reusable t-shirt bags.

  • Gently used t-shirts, all sizes, to make into reusable carrying bags
