Temple Rodef Shalom uses Kol Kore (a Hebrew Bnai Mitzvah tutoring program) as an added resource to help Bar and Bat Mitzvah students learn the Torah portion, Haftarah, and Hebrew prayers required for the service. The program costs $60 and is paid directly to Kol Koreh.
To order the program, DO NOT ORDER ON THEIR WEBSITE. Instead, please send your request via email to Julie Kaplan and we will configure Kol Kore for your Bar/Bat Mitzvah assigned prayers/Torah/Haftarah with our recordings.
You will then receive an email from Kol Kore with instructions on how to log in and use the program. Payment is made at that time. Kol Kore can be used on any computer, phone or tablet with internet access. It is best to use the Firefox web browser.
TRS has a database to help you read about what other TRS B’nai Mitzvah students have done for mitzvah projects. Use our Mitzvah Project Database Sign in as a guest.
Fairfax County also has a great volunteer site to find projects for your age group! Go to Volunteer Management System
Also, the Jewish Federation offers Jconnect. Jconnect is here to help you select a meaningful Bar/Bat Mitzvah project. Whether you are looking for community service or somewhere to direct tzedakah, we have ideas and resources that can match up your interests and talents at our Federation B’nai Mitzvah Page or call us at 1-888-246-1818 or email.
When you have finished your mitzvah project, please visit this page to let us know what you did. We will add it to your file so the clergy can see that it has been completed.
BimBam, formerly G-dcast, creates and distributes fun, accessible and smart digital media about Judaism for kids, adults and families who want to spend quality time online. Each weekly Torah portion is presented in a digital video clip at this link: https://www.bimbam.com/torah-texts/torah/
Read your Torah and Haftarah portions in English, or print a new copy of your portion with vowels, or like it looks in the Torah, without vowels.
The Bar/Bat Mitzvah notebook helps students understand the true meaning of Bar or Bat Mitzvah by looking at what it means to be a Jewish adult from different perspectives.
We ask that students complete one project per month, beginning 12 months prior to the Bar or Bat Mitzvah.
Here are the monthly projects.
