Joey, heralded as “the next Shlomo Carlebach or Debbie Friedman” is Creative Director of the Mechon Hadar’s Center for Jewish Communal Music. Author of the book “Building Singing Communities,” he discusses strategies for bringing people together to make music a lasting and joy-filled force in the synagogue and Jewish life.
Joey will teach us some of the music we will be singing in our service as we enjoy an intimate Shabbat dinner together. No past musical background necessary!
COST: $18
Joey will join our rabbis and cantors for a musically and spiritually uplifting service featuring his own compositions and D’var Torah.
Merging traditional nusah (prayer chant) with soulful nigunim (melodies), we will cultivate the power of the communal voice through rhythm, spontaneous harmony, and careful listening.
Using ideas from his book “Building Singing Communities”, Joey will discuss strategies for bringing people together to make music a lasting and joy-filled force in synagogue and Jewish life. We will sing, discuss, and have time for Q&A.
COST: $12 per person
We will delight in taking “slow leave” of Shabbat with songs, a small potluck meal, words of Torah and will conclude with havdalah at the home of a TRS member.
