If so\, what might it take for us to change? These questions also fascinated the ancient rabbis who created the Mishnah and Gemara (which collectively make up the Talmud). DESCRIPTION:The month of Elul\, which leads up to Rosh Hashanah\, is designated by Jewish tradition as a time for reflection. How are we living\, how are our relationships doing (to ourselves\, each other\, and the wider communities we are part of)\, and is there anything we want to change? If so\, what might it take for us to change? These questions also fascinated the ancient rabbis who created the Mishnah and Gemara (which collectively make up the Talmud). DESCRIPTION:If the unemployed philosopher’s guild had a book group\, it would be SapienStudy at Temple Rodef Shalom.  We began with Harari’s Sapiens\, continued with Diamond’s Guns\, Germs and Steel and will now begin discussing “Liberalism and Its Discontents by Francis Fukuyama.”  Classical liberalism is in a state of crisis. Developed in the wake of Europe’s wars over religion and nationalism\, liberalism is a system for governing diverse societies\, which is grounded in fundamental principles of equality and the rule of law. It emphasizes the rights of individuals to pursue their own forms of happiness free from encroachment by government.  \nThe group meets twice a month to share ideas on the books or article chosen by the group. \nTents are for TRS Members at ECC Families only.
