SUMMARY:Elul Immersive Retreat with Rabbi Sarah Tasman and Naomi Malka
DESCRIPTION:Mark the beginning of the sacred month with a half-day retreat for Rosh Chodesh Elul—a gentle and intentional entry point into the spiritual work of the High Holiday season. Through guided reflection\, creative ritual-building\, and meaningful writing\, participants will explore themes of self-awareness\, forgiveness\, and renewal. Rooted in the spirit of High Holidays preparation\, this retreat offers space to pause and take stock of the past year\, set personal intentions\, and begin the process of teshuvah (return). \nIn our ritual creation\, we will draw on the imagery and presence of water—symbols of flow\, cleansing\, and transformation—inviting participants to craft personal practices that may include pouring\, hand washing\, or immersion that help mark this inner turning. Alongside these shared and individual rituals\, there will be time for quiet introspection and journaling. \nOpen to all\, this retreat invites you to slow down\, listen inward\, and enter Elul with clarity\, purpose\, and an open heart. \nLed by Rabbi Sarah Tasman and Naomi Malka \nRegister now here! For questions\, please contact us. \nNaomi Malka is the author of Bodies of Water\, a forthcoming nonfiction book about Mikvah as a spiritual practice for Jews of all backgrounds. She served as the Director of the Adas Israel Community Mikvah in Washington\, DC from 2006-2022. As a pioneer in the progressive Mikvah movement\, her work focuses on Mikvah as a tool for positive body image. She is also the founder of Tevila b’Teva: Immersion in Nature\, a program that brings safe (and bathing-suit on) outdoor immersion to Jewish summer camps. Naomi has taught about Mikvah in Reform\, Reconstructionist\, Conservative\, Modern Orthodox\, and trans-denominational circles\, and she is a content provider for At The Well\, a Jewish women’s wellness organization dedicated to celebrating Rosh Hodesh. She earned a masters in Jewish Music from the Jewish Theological Seminary and a BA in Sociology from UCLA.

SUMMARY:Erev Shabbat Evening Service (weekly on Fridays)
DESCRIPTION:The core of Temple Rodef Shalom is our Shabbat service at the end of the week\, we pause for Shabbat and come together as a community of people who care for each other. We invite you to join us! \nEach Friday evening\, immerse yourself in Shabbat with the music and meditation of prayer and the warmth of community. SUMMARY:Talmud for Elul! - What Does It Take to Change? (3 sessions)
DESCRIPTION:The month of Elul\, which leads up to Rosh Hashanah\, is designated by Jewish tradition as a time for reflection. How are we living\, how are our relationships doing (to ourselves\, each other\, and the wider communities we are part of)\, and is there anything we want to change? If so\, what might it take for us to change? These questions also fascinated the ancient rabbis who created the Mishnah and Gemara (which collectively make up the Talmud). In this short class\, we’ll explore some of their reflections on change (in English translation)\, and try them on for ourselves. \n3 sessions:\nWed\, Aug 19\nWed\, Aug 26\nWed\, Sept 2 \nCome if you love Talmud\, come if you’ve never studied Talmud\, come if you’d like to reflect! Everyone is welcome. Please click here to register.

DESCRIPTION:The core of Temple Rodef Shalom is our Shabbat service at the end of the week\, we pause for Shabbat and come together as a community of people who care for each other. Together\, in times of joy\, sorrow\, and every day\, we hope to create a spiritual encounter with self\, community and God. \nReflecting the diversity of our membership\, we have diversity in our prayer-life as well. We celebrate Shabbat with song\, prayer and learning. Our dynamic clergy team leads the congregation and seeks to provide a prayer experience to which each of us can connect. We invite you to join us! \nEach Friday evening\, immerse yourself in Shabbat with the music and meditation of prayer and the warmth of community. Temple Rodef Shalom offers services that sit at the intersection of tradition and modernity\, presenting each the opportunity to find their own place and connection. Our services are spiritually and intellectually uplifting experiences.
