Helene has served as past president of the North American board of the Women of Reform Judaism\, as well as Mid-Atlantic District president and local sisterhood president at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation. As a community leader\, Helene is the past president of the Federation of Jewish Women’s Organizations of Maryland and was the first Jewish president of the Junior League of Baltimore\, Inc. She was recognized in the Circle of Excellence of Maryland’s Top 100 Women. DESCRIPTION:The American Jewish Community Tent (Virtual) \nThe purpose of this special TRS Tent is to probe perspectives on the future of Judaism in the United States through the lens of the concept of “diaspora.” The central question will be\, “Where is the American Jewish community in the United States heading in the twenty-first century?” Issues to be covered might include sources of American Jewish identity\, the disconnect of younger people with established Jewish institutions\, cohesion vs. division\, the impact of antisemitism\, and comparison with other diasporas. DESCRIPTION:SapienStudy Tent \nIf the unemployed philosopher’s guild had a book group\, it would be SapienStudy at Temple Rodef Shalom.  We began with Harari’s Sapiens\, continued with Diamond’s Guns\, Germs and Steel and will now begin discussing Liberalism and Its Discontents by Francis Fukuyama.  Classical liberalism is in a state of crisis. Developed in the wake of Europe’s wars over religion and nationalism\, liberalism is a system for governing diverse societies\, which is grounded in fundamental principles of equality and the rule of law.
