Jewish learning a primary means by which congregants come to make
connections between Judaism and their American lives.

the formal and informal at all levels of congregational
learning.
-
To
foster a culture of life-long Jewish
learning.
Frequently
Asked Questions
1. What is the goal of CE21?
Our goal is to bring engaging learning to more TRS learners of all ages,
in a deeper and more personally meaningful way. We cherish the
value
of life-long learning.
2. Don't we already have excellent
educational programming?
Yes we do! We take great pride in our Nursery, Religious School,
Teen,
and adult classes and programs. However, recent studies in
learning
theory, identity formation, and research in Jewish education show us
that the traditional models of learning are not always the best.
3. Isn't Jewish education really
about preparing for Bar/Bat Mitzvah?
No way - there's so much more! Jewish learning at its best should
provide a framework for daily living and the tools to face sacred
moments. Jewish learning should help us deepen our relationships
with others and with God.
4. Who is involved in CE21?
We have a Task Force of 25 members, most of whom represent
different areas of educational programming. The project is
co-chaired
by Cantor Allen Leider, Director of Education and Danielle Heyman
Feist. Clergy and Senior Staff members are integrally involved.
We
also have an organizational consultant and educational consultant
provided by the Partnership for Jewish Life and Learning.
5. What is currently happening in
CE21?
Over the past year
we have completed a phase of Self-Reflection,
exploring questions like “What makes Jewish learning meaningful?”
We’ve examined our current learning opportunities at TRS and
questioned the underlying assumptions that guide our programming.
Currently, we are
completing our phase of Visioning. We’ve explored
many of the
qualities that make our TRS community so special and
how those
qualities might become the core of a new program of
learning.
We've held around 15 Conversations on
Jewish Learning and
Engagement in congregants' homes. These
conversations will help us
to complete our vision and begin to create
a new program for Jewish
learning at TRS.
6. What's next?
During the month of March 2010, we'll be
finalizing our vision and
beginning the Design phase. We hope to begin to roll out our new
program in September 2010.
