We are a thriving, vibrant, inclusive, diverse, tolerant, sacred, loving Reform Jewish congregation nestled in the suburbs of Washington, DC. Since our founding in 1962, we have grown to the largest Jewish congregation in Virginia, serving over 1600 households from McLean, Arlington, Falls Church, Vienna and other nearby Northern Virginia areas.
Together we strive to build a sacred community, Kehilla Kedosha, unified by common goals and ideals, where all members are embraced, Jewish traditions are honored and our spiritual link to Israel is fostered. Our name, Rodef Shalom, translates to "pursuer of peace" in Hebrew and we are proud that our community lives and breathes our name.
We are proud of how each member brings his or her own story to our community—such as those who have a multi-generational history and those new to the Northern Virginia area or Temple Rodef Shalom. We are an extended family - a community of all ages, backgrounds, and lifestyles. We are newcomers and old-timers, children and adults, individuals and couples and families, multi-racial families, LGBT and straight, Jews by birth and by choice, those who have children with physical or learning needs, non-Jewish partners and spouses.
Temple Rodef Shalom offers a broad range of spiritual, educational, and social programs that engage members of every age and background. We have something for everyone!
During the week, our Nursery School provides a joyful and nurturing learning environment for over 200 children. If you stop by evenings and weekends, you'll see over 900 students bustling about the halls of our Religious School. During the summer months, Camp Rodef Shalom kicks into gear with nearly 300 energetic campers and over 150 staff members filling the building with tons of ruach (spirit)! As is a Jewish tradition, learning is a lifelong affair and this tradition continues with thoughtful adult educational programs.
Our worship style -- accessible and inclusive -- enriches the heart, mind, and spirit of all who attend. The music at our services is participatory and engaging. A number of opportunities exist to meet the many needs of our community.
Our calendar is bursting at the seams with exciting speakers and activities. An assortment of affinity and support groups enable the members of our large congregation the opportunity to connect in smaller settings. Jewish entertainers from all over the world (and local too!) fill our cultural events calendar each year.
Our vibrant community is a celebration and exploration of Reform Jewish life, rooted in tradition and relevant for all time. We hope you will consider joining us at one of the many worship services and activities that are offered. We would be honored the opportunity to extend a warm welcome to you when you visit!
P.S. We've created a few slide shows to give you just a taste of what life is like here at TRS - this, of course, can't replace a visit - but will hold you over until we can meet you in person! Check us out:
